Please forward to your colleagues to encourage their participation in the X3-Noise Network and to draw attention to the website www.xnoise.eu on which we can and do provide topical information.

The most recent news, concerning the TIMPAN project which has been completed, and the newly started VALIANT project, are available on the website.  Information of all ongoing projects is updated regularly, as well as the Research Organisations' annual reports, Calendar and News sections.

X3-Noise newsletter Summer 2009

Dear colleague,

Welcome to our summer 2009 newsletter!

Please forward to your colleagues to encourage their participation in the X-Noise Network and to draw attention to the website www.xnoise.eu on which we can and do provide topical information.

Recent months have seen the effective start of two important aircraft noise projects OPENAIR and COSMA. Forthcoming X-Noise events include a stakeholder seminar dedicated to 'Noise Mapping' issues, the annual full network meeting and the 2009 scientific workshop to be held in Bucharest.

Further information can be obtained through the website. As a new feature, major European research organisations’ annual reports are now available to all visitors.

Best regards,

Dominique Collin                                                        Stephen Chow

X3-Noise newsletter Winter 2008/2009

Dear colleague,

Welcome to our new newsletter!

The new Roadmap now includes the 3 most recent successes in FP7 second round:

  • VALIANT, VALidation and Improvement of Airframe Noise prediction Tools, an upstream research-oriented project to tackle broadband noise generated by turbulent flow around the airframe;
  • OPENAIR, Optimisation for low Environmental Noise Impact AIRcraft, by adopting a whole aircraft approach based on the latest developments in active/adaptive technologies, flow control technologies and advances in computational aeroacoustics, to deliver a step change in noise reduction, beyond the SILENCE(R) achievements, including a (further) demonstration in the Clean Sky Joint Technology Initiative;
  • COSMA, Community Oriented Solutions to Minimise aircraft noise Annoyance, to develop engineering criteria for aircraft design and   operations to reduce annoyance from aircraft noise within airport communities.

More information will be forthcoming on the website on each of these projects.

Best regards,

                       Dominique Collin                                  Christine Bickerstaff
