2010 X3-Noise Scientific Workshop Warsaw, Poland

Aeroacoustics of high-speed aircraft propellers and open rotors

The 5th Scientific Workshop of X3-NOISE, also named the 14th CEAS-ASC Workshop, was held in the Institute of Aviation, Warsaw, Poland, on October 7-8, 2010. Its title was : “Aeroacoustics of high-speed aircraft propellers and open rotors”.

The workshop had three keynote speakers:

- Edmane Envia, NASA Glenn, USA : NASA Open Rotor Noise Research

- Arne Stuermer, DLR, Germany : DLR CROR & Propeller Noise Prediction: Numerical     Approach Requirements & Limitations,

- Yves Delrieux, ONERA, France : “Overview of Onera Aeroacoustic Activities in the  Frame of Propellers and Open Rotors“

There were 14 contribution papers presented to 61 participants coming from 16 countries. The five sessions were named :

  • Fundamental studies
  • Preliminary design & optimisation – tonal noise
  • Preliminary design & optimisation – broadband noise
  • Installation effects : measurements and predictions
  • Unconventional CFD/FW-H methods

 The meeting was closed by a round table dealing with computation, experiments and theory.
